Philippe Arnold à Bende, stage name Soul Brova, is a Cameroonian Afro-fusion artist, singer, and songwriter whose work blends Makossa traditions with modern African electronic and urban influences. Born in Douala in 1998, he developed an early interest in music shaped by both classic Cameroonian legends such as Manu Dibango and contemporary African acts. His artistic direction is largely defined by a mission to modernise traditional sounds while preserving their cultural identity.
He first began gaining attention with early singles like “Witchman” in 2019 and “Makossa” in 2021, which already hinted at his signature approach: rhythmic, dance-driven production rooted in Makossa but enhanced with contemporary Afro-pop and club textures. These early releases positioned him within a new wave of artists reinterpreting heritage sounds for younger audiences.
His catalogue expanded significantly in 2024 with singles such as “Zengue” and “4MYDADDY,” which strengthened his presence on streaming platforms and refined his fusion-heavy sound. These tracks helped establish his identity before the release of his most important project.
In 2025, Soul Brova released his debut EP "Old Is Gold," a six-track project that includes “Na Tondi 2.0,” “Cameroon Typic Collection,” “Njocka,” “La vie c’est comme ça,” and “Mwehél mè.” The EP marked a defining moment in his career, presenting a cohesive artistic statement built around reimagining Makossa through a modern lens. It also solidified his reputation as a cultural bridge between traditional Cameroonian music and contemporary Afro-fusion.
Soul Brova continues to build a growing catalogue shaped by cultural preservation, rhythmic experimentation, and a consistent effort to push Makossa-inspired music into broader global spaces.
